About Tamkang University
Tamkang University was founded in 1950 by Chang Ming (styled Ching-sheng) and his son Chang Chien-pang as Tamkang English Junior College. Per the university, it was Taiwan's first private higher-education institution. In 1958 it became a college of arts and sciences, and in 1980 it was formally renamed Tamkang University.
It has grown into a comprehensive university with four campuses — Tamsui, Taipei, Lanyang and its cyber campus — nine colleges, about 22,000 students, 2,000 full-time and part-time staff, and roughly 340,000 alumni.
The university reports adopting Total Quality Management in 1992 to lift teaching, research, administration and service quality, and winning the National Quality Award in 2009. Its current direction is summed up in two registered trademarks, "AI+SDGs" and "ESG+AI", aiming at a model it calls "international at home, cloud-smart, sustainable future".
