About Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology
The institution traces back to 1964, when Mr. Wu San-lien, a national policy adviser to the Presidential Office, joined political, business and cultural figures in Tainan to found the school, aiming to train industrial and commercial professionals and to build a first-class junior college.
In 1990, after the Ministry of Education relaxed the one-school-one-field rule, it added commercial programmes and was renamed Southern Taiwan Junior College of Industry and Commerce. It applied for conversion in 1995 and was approved in the first batch as an institute of technology in 1996. In 1999 it became the first of the converted junior colleges approved to be renamed Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology; junior college intake stopped that year, with master's programmes added in 2000 and doctoral programmes in 2002.
On international accreditation the university states: its business college earned AACSB accreditation in 2017 — per the university, the only private university of technology in Taiwan to hold it; seven engineering departments passed IEET (EAC) accreditation from the 2008 academic year, with second- and third-cycle renewals in 2012 and 2018, so its engineering qualifications are recognised by Washington Accord signatories; and its digital design college has held IEET (DAC) accreditation since the 2015 academic year.
