About Kun Shan University

Kun Shan University began taking shape in October 1964 through the efforts of founder Mr. Li Cheng-ho and his wife Ms. Min Jung-jung, on land in Dawan, Yongkang, Tainan — an area historically known as "Jiyu Pond". The school was formally founded on 29 April 1965.

It first applied to open an industrial and commercial junior college and was approved by the Ministry of Education as Kun Shan Junior College of Industry. In August 1971 it opened a two-year evening division; in July 1991 it added commerce and was renamed Kun Shan Junior College of Industry and Commerce.

In July 1996 it was in the first batch approved by the Ministry of Education to become an institute of technology, and in 2000 it was renamed a university of science and technology. It now has five colleges — Engineering, Business Management, Creative Media, Human Ecology and International — with provision from junior college through to doctoral level.
