Hungkuang University (HKU) was founded in 1967 in central Taiwan by Dr. Wang Yuxuan, founder of Kuang Tien General Hospital, under the motto "begin from oneself, extend benevolence to all".
Since its founding, the university's nursing department has been one of Taiwan's key institutions for training nursing professionals, per the university's own introduction.
