About Hsiuping University of Science and Technology
The founder was Mr. Lin Tang-pan, whose courtesy name Hsiuping gives the university its present title. He completed the founding plan in April 1965; the Ministry of Education permitted preparation on 14 October 1965 and approved registration on 13 August 1966, with enrolment beginning that academic year.
It opened as Shu-Te Junior College of Home Economics under its first president Mr. Lin Pao-shu, with three five-year programmes: home economics, nutrition and clothing design. The name then changed repeatedly: Shu-Te Junior College of Industry (1970), Shu-Te Junior College of Industry and Commerce (1994), Hsiuping Institute of Technology (August 2000) and Hsiuping University of Science and Technology (August 2011).
The university frames its philosophy in three parts: teachers and students as family, cooperating like a household; humanistic values paired with the most exacting technical skill; and close ties among academia, industry and government to raise graduates' competitiveness.
