About Chihlee University of Technology
The school emerged from the context of 1961, when the government's four-year economic plan created urgent demand for commercial expertise. A group of educators and business figures — many of them Christians — came together to found it. On 2 September 1965 the Ministry of Education approved its establishment, with Mr. Jen Chueh-wu as first board chairman and Mr. Tan Chi-sheng as first president.
That October it admitted its first cohort of 320 students across international trade, business administration, banking and insurance, and accounting and statistics. Later milestones: a continuing-education junior college in 1998, conversion to an institute of technology with a junior college division in 2000, and approval in August 2015 to be renamed a university of science and technology.
The name "Chihlee" draws on the phrase "extending knowledge and understanding principle" from the Great Learning together with the Christian commitment to truth; its motto is "integrity and diligence". On facilities, the library holds more than 270,000 volumes and over 1,700 domestic and foreign periodicals and newspapers, alongside audio-visual systems and network infrastructure.
